Toronto has always been a great place for sports fans, especially football fans. The city hosts some of the biggest sporting events around, from the World Cup to the Grey Cup. What other reasons should you visit Toronto?
The Blue Jays
The baseball team is still one of the most popular teams in Canada. They’ve won two World Series and have had some great players over the years. You can catch them at Rogers Centre or watch their games online.
Hockey
The Maple Leafs are one of the best hockey teams in the NHL. If you don’t like hockey, they also play in the NHL every year as well. Come out to Scotiabank Arena if you want to see a game!
Football
Football is another popular sport in Toronto. The Argonauts play here and they’re no longer called the Argos. If that’s not enough you can go to BMO Field to cheer on your favourite NFL team thanks to the new stadium.
Soccer
If you enjoy soccer, then come out and support CSIS FC in Hamilton. This team plays throughout the season and they’re always looking to improve themselves.
Tennis
Want to see some of the greatest tennis players in the world up close? Well, the Air Canada Centre is home to the ATP tour and holds a variety of Grand Slam tournaments. Come spend time with us while you wait for Roger Federer to make his way there.
Golf
The driving range at Richmond Hill Golf Club is fantastic. It’s pretty much within walking distance of the city so it’s perfect if you’re visiting Toronto for a short trip. Come get a little exercise and a lot of fun!
Bull Riding
In Ontario, the biggest event of the summer is the Canadian National Rodeo. It takes place every July near Calgary but this event happens twice a month in Toronto during the summer months. Be sure to check when the next bull riding event will be held if you’d like to attend one!
Music Festivals
There are music festivals all over Toronto and the surrounding areas. Some of our favourites include HARD Summer, Shambhala Music Festival, and Caribana which is hosted every August in downtown Toronto.
Festival Season
Toronto hosts many festivals throughout the year such as Luminato, Caribana, Vaisakhi, and Pride (to name just a few). These festivals celebrate everything from food to culture and offer a chance to meet people from different backgrounds.
Food
Foodies love Toronto because we have amazing restaurants everywhere you look. From authentic Asian cuisine to delicious pizza, you’ll find something that suits your palate right outside your door.
Museums
Every neighbourhood has its museum whether it be art museums, history museums, science centres, etc. A day without seeing a museum would be sad. Make sure you stop by the Royal Ontario Museum’s dinosaur exhibit once you arrive.
Beaches
Whether you’re into surfing or sunbathing, beaches are an important part of any vacation. Head down to Cherry Beach or Mississauga Lake if you want to enjoy a beautiful beach holiday.
Cinemas
No matter what kind of movie you enjoy watching, you should know there’s a cinema nearby. There are plenty of cinemas around the Greater Toronto Area, including multiplexes, independent theatres, and even repertory cinemas where movies rotate through decades of film history.
Parks
One thing about living in a big city is how beautiful parks can be. Take advantage of local recreation facilities at Don Valley Park or High Park. We also have several other national and provincial parks within driving/public transit distance like Niagara Parks, Killarney Provincial Park, Bruce Peninsula National Park, and more!
Festivals
All cities have parades, concerts, and festivals throughout the year. Check out the list below for Toronto events.
Shopping
You won’t believe how cheap shopping can be in Toronto! With thousands of shops located on Queen Street West alone, you could be spending hundreds of dollars less than you would back home. If you’re looking for luxury shopping, head to Yorkville.
Sight Seeing
As long as you’re staying somewhere new, you should take full advantage of the sights while you’re here. The CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame, Distillery District, Casa Loma, Harbourfront Centre, and Old Town Square are only a sample of the many tourist attractions available in the GTA.
Events
Once you’ve experienced the best things to do in Toronto, then you might start planning some of your own. There are so many events happening all the time, with festivals and street happenings taking place in the winter and summer.
Nightlife
While many tourists may think they don’t need to experience nightlife while visiting Toronto, you couldn’t be further off-base. The City offers tons of bars, clubs, live venues, and lounges scattered throughout the city centre; perfect for those who love to party.
Conclusion
When you visit a city, you should always explore neighbourhoods and see places you wouldn’t normally go.
